Australia’s Circa is world-renowned for its unique artistry—a distinctly 21st century circus that incorporates contemporary dance and even performance art as well as virtuosic acrobatics, and discards most of the trappings of traditional circus in favor of unmediated, emotionally rich choreography. Under the artistic direction of Yaron Lifschitz, the ensemble creates innovative, genre-bending pieces that celebrate the expressive possibilities of the human body at its extremes.
“White-hot, funny and sexy, these are super-human acrobats masquerading as mere mortals. They raise the bar of what is possible.”The Stage (UK)
Having stunned audiences with a self-titled show in 2011, Circa returns to NYU Skirball Center with Wunderkammer, a sexy, funny and explosive cabinet of wonders featuring seven multi-talented artists. The new work is a breathtaking spectacle, full of sheer physical poetry.
Wunderkammer is part of the Visions + Voices Global Performance Series highlighting international artists from a chosen locale. The series brings a global site into sharp focus with dance, circus, music, theater, film, and visual art. FIRST UP: AUSTRALIA!
